Gary and his friend Pete (since school days!) are natives of England and have been travelling to Thailand for many years, About 10 years ago Gary & Pete were booked to go on a windsurfing holiday in Spain but two weeks before they were due to go, Gary had an accident and was unable to go. The holiday was cancelled and Gary was of work for three months. When he recovered Pete suggested they go to Thailand (windsurfing was out of the question), so they went to Thailand where they fell in love with the area, the people, the culture and that's how it all started. Gary said to Pete "I will live here one day". Two years later Gary discovered Koh Chang and about 1 year after that he also fell in love with Sai. They have been married for 5 years and also have a wonderful son by the name of Charlie (who you will see playing about the resort on most days!). When Saigars first opened about 6 years ago Gary and Pete wanted to make sure that the construction was local, the materials true to traditional Thai construction (bamboo, wood and thatch), but also that the rooms and area would have European standards like flushing toilets, waterproof construction and hot water! It was a good mix... While the resort was still under construction Pete joined the business and several months later the Resort had opened! Gary, Pete and Sai wanted to create not just a resort but a place that travellers could call home and just relax. As Gary has said on many occasions "We want to have a place that we would want to stay in... It really is that simple you know" And Saigars has succeeded at that. The in ground pool, relaxing lounge, attached restaurant, quiet and serene landscaped area all combine to let travellers and friends kick up their feet, take a deep breath and just relax. Sai cooks the best breakfast on the island, and Thai dishes that are to die for! Gary is usually found in the outdoor lounge area booking trips, doing the paper work but mostly just visiting with friends and customers. His manner of being open, honest and his in-depth knowledge of the island have many picking his brain for the best places to go, things to do etc.. and that, is what makes Saigars such a wonderful and authentic place to be. Over the years the resort has become a "hidden jewel" here on the island and about 60% of the customers he has are repeat customers. Travellers who know this is the place to kick back on the island and relax! |
